Under the guidance of Artistic Director David McAllister, The Australian Ballet presents a diverse mix of ballets every year.
The dancers regularly make us gasp in wonder at the prowess of the human body in motion. But their athleticism is tempered with an aesthetic regard for the quality of the movement and its ability to communicate emotion. The dancers' guides in this quest to go beyond "gymnastic tricks and pretty movements" are our talented and dedicated ballet staff.
Music is an integral part of ballet and our Music Director & Chief Conductor Nicolette Fraillon leads the music staff and orchestras across the country to ensure the music of talented composers is melded seamlessly with the action on the stage.
Our resident choreographers regularly produce dynamic new works for the company, in both the contemporary and classical ballet languages.
To support our company of around 70 dancers, The Australian Ballet employs over a hundred people in other departments, including company management, marketing, publicity, music, healthcare, production, technical (taking in stage management), as well as teachers and coaches of dancing.
