In 2008 Penrith Performing & Visual Arts and The Australian Ballet joined forces at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre to present a special dance programme for school students and teachers of the Western Sydney district. This exciting collaboration has become an annual event and in 2010 we will present another series of innovative education events.
Led by The Australian Ballet’s Dance Education Ensemble Out There –The Australian Ballet in schools, the dance presenters will deliver a series of beginners and specialist workshops designed for Primary and Secondary school students as well as professional development workshops for generalist teachers and dance teachers within the education system.
On-stage presentations will also be given of Talking Doing Dancers – a specially choreographed demonstration/discussion. This interactive presentation connects with and inspires the students as they observe a range of dance styles including classical ballet and contemporary. Elements of dance vocabulary, history, costumes and staging are interwoven into the dialogue and demonstration. The session includes a forum for the dancers to take questions from the students.
