In an exciting first for The Australian Ballet, the company has teamed up with Principal Sponsor Telstra to present a live internet broadcast to ballet fans across the nation.
Utilising the latest in digital technology, Telstra Bigpond will live stream the final performance of Bodytorque.Muses at Sydney Theatre on Sunday 29 May at 3pm.
The live broadcast will be available to all internet users in Australia and worldwide – not just Telstra Bigpond customers. The content will be later available to view as video on demand.
Bodytorque.Muses is the eighth installment of The Australian Ballet’s annual search for new choreographic talent beginning at Sydney Theatre on Thursday 26 May. The new season arrives with an intriguing twist on the Bodytorque concept, exploring the relationship between artists and their muses.
Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet, David McAllister, is delighted the company is taking its next leap into the digital age, particularly with Bodytorque.Muses as its vehicle.
“It’s fitting that our first live streaming event will be as part of the experimental Bodytorque program, known for pushing the boundaries of ballet into the future. It’s so exciting that all of Australia can have the opportunity to be part of our audience,” McAllister said.
This online event is the latest in a series of initiatives by The Australian Ballet designed to let audiences out of mainstage reach, such as those in regional and remote communities, be part of the ballet experience.
The company has well and truly embraced the possibilities of digital media, with a popular Facebook page with over 25,000 fans and a highly engaged Twitter community with more than a dozen dancers tweeting. The internationally read blog Behind Ballet, with more than 30,000 unique visits per month, complements a main website rich in content.
